04 / 02 / 2022

The Argentine midfielder underlined his excitement at starting the next stage of his career as a yellow

Giovani Lo Celso was presented this Friday as a new Villarreal player. The Argentinean player appeared in front of the media in a remote press conference alongside CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles.

In his first appearance as a yellow, the Argentinean underlined his satisfaction and thanked the club for the trust showed in him: “I wanted to play for Villarreal. I wanted to come here and I thank the club and the board for trusting in me. I knew the manager and the coaching staff. They’re a club that compete for great objectives.”

During the press conference, Lo Celso hailed Villarreal CF’s playing style. “I’m joining a club with an attractive style. They’re a club that compete for big things. In LaLiga, we will try and end the season as high up as possible, and we also have a knockout tie in the Champions League, which is a very prestigious competition.”

The Argentinean underlined that despite only recently returning from international duty, he’s ready to help the team: “I played with the national team on Tuesday. The trip was long, but I feel good and ready to play. I’m available for the manager. I met my team-mates today and I’m very excited.”

Lo Celso also recognised that he knows Unai Emery from their time together at Paris Saint-Germain: “I know how he works as a coach and what he can bring. This is a team that plays attractive football and I identify with this playing style. We’re doing OK, but we need to move up the table.”

Completely focused on his new team’s objectives, Lo Celso highlighted the importance of the next game against Real Betis (Sunday, 6:30pm CET): “We know the importance of Sunday’s game against Betis. They’re a team that are playing very well, but we can compete against them. It’s a very important match for the fight for Europe. On Sunday, it’s important to put in a good performance.”

Regarding his position on the pitch, the midfielder emphasised his ability to adapt to what the coach wants: “I’ve always been able to adapt to what the distinct coaches who I have had have wanted, as well as what every team has needed. I don’t have a favourite position. I’m comfortable with what the manager asks of me. I’m ready to play where I’m asked to. My aim is to play and offer something to the team.”

Roig Negueroles: “He’s a footballer who will bring us a lot”

Villarreal CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles welcomes Giovani Lo Celso, the latest signing for the Yellow Submarine: “He’s a player who doesn’t need an introduction. He’s played for big teams and he’s an international with Argentina. The player’s desire to come to the club was key to make things happen. We welcome him to the club and we hope that he’s very happy."
