Villarreal will wear black against Alavés as part of a number of activities in support of those affected by the flooding in Spain
The floloding has left a desolate panorama in many corners of Spain affecting, in particular, the Region of Valencia and the province of Valencia. Due to this difficult situation, in which thousands of people have been affected by the loss of their loved ones or homes, Villarreal CF wants to pay tribute to them and show all their support and solidarity to the victims in their first home game after the catastrophe this Saturday (4:15pm CET) against Deportivo Alavés at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The club has collaborated financially with those affected by donating half a million euros to Caritas and the Red Cross (€250,000 each) and invites fans to donate if possible. In order to give greater visibility to this situation and as a sign of mourning, the club will carry out the different actions during Saturday’s match:
Villarreal will wear black as a sign of mourning
Villarreal will wear all black, for the first time ever at home, as a sign of mourning for the tragedy and will wear a commemorative and supportive message on the sleeve with the slogan ‘Junts Endavant’, which means ‘Moving Forward Together’.
Afterwards, the shirts will be auctioned off for charity, as the money raised will be donated to the cause.
A special armband
The Villarreal CF captain will wear a special armband with the ‘senyera’, the flag of the Region of Valencia.
Unfurling of a giant flag of the Region of Valencia
The Estadio de la Cerámica will live an emotional moment when, in the centre of the pitch, the flag of the Region of Valencia (18x12m) will be unfurled, showing the club’s support to one of the areas most affected by this catastrophe.
Leaving the tunnel with a special message
The Villarreal and Deportivo Alavés players will take to the pitch wearing t-shirts in support of those affected by the flooding with the message ‘Força València’ (Stay strong Valencia) and will take a joint photo before the match.
A symbolic minute of remembrance
Just before kick-off, the Estadio de la Cerámica will hold a minute of remembrance accompanied by the anthem of the Region of Valencia.
The supporters’ association is also involved
Various official fan clubs will bring flags and banners to the stands to join the tribute and show their support.
Finally, given the circumstances of the game, there will not be a Fan Zone outside the Estadio de la Cerámica before the match.
