The Villarreal B head coach backs his side to be competive and versatile against AD Mérida (Sunday, 3:30pm CEST)
Villarreal B head coach, Miguel Álvarez, appeared before the media this Friday to analyse the upcoming Villarreal B game against AD Mérida this Sunday at the Estadio Romano José Fouto, with kick-off at 3:30pm CEST.
Here is what he had to say:
Possible absentees
“We are still waiting for the first team, to see who will be in the squad, but I imagine it will be Pau Cabanes and Pau Navarro.”
Increasingly competitive
“Our pre-season starts when the first team’s pre-season finishes, because they count on our players, which we love, but it also has a conditioning factor for us. You start to build later. Even at home against Betis and Castilla we showed a very good team, and every day we dominate more and more registers: that direct play, second plays, set pieces… The lads are working at a very high level, which also makes us more competitive. The last game, in the first half we played very well with associative play, and I also think we defended very well.”
Against Mérida
“We’re looking for continuity, rather than confirming our good level. We’re going to go to Mérida and we’re going to compete very well, with all due respect for an opponent like this one, who is one of the teams that has dominated a lot of records from very early on. At home they have taken seven points out of nine. They are an opponent in a very sweet moment. It’s true that they have three defensive absentees, but so do we. We have to do better than in Algeciras.”
