The B team head coach expects his team to be competitive against a rival that has become more pragmatic as the season has gone on (Sunday, 12pm CET)
Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez spoke to the media on Friday to discuss the team’s upcoming match against Recreativo de Huelva, corresponding to Matchday 23 of the 2024/25 Primera RFEF season, which will be played on Sunday at 12pm CET at the Estadio Nuevo Colombino.
“We’re not as happy as in other weeks coming off the back of a defeat, but we’re fine. We’ve been working hard this week. We want to compete at Recreativo de Huelva’s ground as we have done in the last few outings,” said coach, acknowledging that the squad is focused on getting the wins. ‘It doesn’t worry us because it’s something that happens a lot with B teams, but it keeps us focused. We want to get good results,” he explained.
Despite the importance of the match, Miguel Álvarez has clarified that it is not a final: “It’s an important game, without a doubt. Because of the three points at stake and the head to head record. But we can’t lose perspective. There are 15 games left and it’s one of them. They will also want to win because they are playing at home and they need the points. It’s a game to compete to the maximum and play the football we’ve played in our last few outings. We have to compete in the same way as we have done away recently.”
With regard to their opponents, the head coach of the B team pointed out that Recreativo de Huelva are a different team to the first round: “They’re much more pragmatic. They’ve changed their head coach and now they play more direct and are much stronger defensively. It’s not easy to surprise them or steal the ball from them in dangerous areas. Maybe they don’t offer as much up front as they used to, but they are a team that is difficult to hurt. They have players of a very high level.”
