Miguel Álvarez: “Tenerife are very strong at home”

Villarreal B visit the Heliodoro Rodríguez López this Saturday at 6:30pm CEST

Villarreal B head coach, Miguel Álvarez, appeared in front of the media ahead of the match against CD Tenerife, corresponding to Gameweek 34 of LaLiga SmartBank, which will take place this Saturday 1st April at 6:30pm CET at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.

Here are the key things he has had to say:

The team’s form

“We’re very good. Very happy. We’re in a good line of results and feelings. We’re looking forward to Saturday to compete again”.

What sort of match to expect

“They are a team that are like us. Everything is very tight. I expect a very complicated game, as always, because Tenerife are a totally different team at home, with a direct game that drives you crazy, a set-piece game with a lot of danger and in transitions. I’m sure that away from home they have deserved more points than they have, but where they are strongest is at home, you only have to look at the game against Las Palmas. We have to work to stop the intensity they have”.

The keys

“They are a team that plays well in positional attack, but they are very good in direct play because they take you to a four-on-four or five-on-five and in second plays. The transitions are brutal and the forwards attack the spaces very well. They have people up front with experience in the top flight, like Enric Gallego and Waldo. You have to fight them with personality. They’re practically 1-0 up because of their fans and we have to have the personality to play on these pitches. We have to play our football. The coaching staff are happy because they believe in our players whether we play at home or away and we play calmly.”

A great month of March

“In football, today is important, not yesterday. We have a beautiful trip to Tenerife at a ground with an incredible atmosphere. We’re competing against a magnificent team who are going to demand a lot from us, as they did here at home, when they went 2-0 up and we managed to draw.”

Iker Álvarez returning from international duty

“We are happy to have everyone, but if Gianni had to play, we would be happy too.”
