The Mini Submarine boss trusts his team to be able to turn the tie around in Melilla
Villarreal B manager Miguel Álvarez appeared in front of the press yesterday after the first leg of the first round of the promotion play-offs to Segunda División between the Yellows reserves and UD Melilla (0-2) at the Mini Estadi at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva).
Álvarez underlined that ‘it wasn’t over yet’. “We have to put in a very good game there, but I didn’t see Melilla two goals better than us. I believe that it was a penalty and an unlucky piece of play that was the difference. What’s more, you’re left with one player down in the 60th minute, and I believe that the team, with ten men, put in a good game during these 30 minutes. The 0-2 result is too cruel,” claimed the Mini Submarine head coach.
He highlighted that his players find themselves in a privileged position: “We’re going into it excited because we’ve been working for these sort of matches all there. Many teams would swap places with Villarreal B, to be playing for promotion.”
Finally, he underlined that the side could get back in the tie with an early goal and make the most of their chances away from home: “It’s clear that we’ve had a blow today with the 0-2 result, but I’m clear, I said to the boys that they need to pick themselves up. I am going to be optimistic and I will transmit to the boys that we can go and get the first goal there and make them nervy. Youngsters are capable of anything, and I still believe in them. We’re going to Melilla to have fun. If they won 0-2 here, why can’t we draw against them?”
