The Yellows’ head coach expects a tight match against an aggressive opponent who will force the Submarine to be at their best (Saturday, 4:15pm CET)
Villarreal head coach, Marcelino García Toral, has appeared before the media to analyse the upcoming match against Deportivo Alavés, corresponding to Matchday 27 of the 2024/25 LALIGA EA Sports season, which will be played this Saturday, from 4:15pm CET, at Mendizorroza.
The Yellows go into the tie after a week without competition due to the postponement of their last game against RCD Espanyol. “We would have liked to have played this Monday. Without a doubt. Now we’ve been out of action for 15 days and we’ll have to see how it’s going to affect us. Although if we don’t play a good game we won’t say that’s the reason. We have to focus our efforts on winning the game against Alavés,” Marcelino explained.
Regarding the match, he warned of the parity that exists in the league and the virtues of a very dangerous Alavés side at Mendizorroza: “It’s very difficult to win a match against any team. We saw it last weekend. None of the teams at the bottom lost. The results are very close. That’s why we have to have the utmost respect and appreciate the difficulty of each game. We know that we’re going to a very difficult ground, where they’ve deserved more points than they’ve taken. They’re going to make it difficult for us, with their pressure and transitions.”
Likewise, the coach underlined that the match will require maximum demand from Villarreal: “They’re going to demand a lot from us. They’re coming off the back of a valuable draw in Mallorca. It will be a very difficult game against an opponent that will make us uncomfortable for sure. They are dangerous and have a lot at stake. We have to be at our best in all phases of the game and try to be accurate in the penalty area.”
