The Villarreal manager believes his team “didn’t deserve to lose” against Las Palmas
The Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, showed disappointment after his team’s loss against Las Palmas tonight (0-1), but said he believed the team at least deserved a draw: “There are days that things don’t go as well as we want. We started a bit slow and it we found it difficult to regain possession. We had a very clear chance to put us ahead and then when they scored a strategically planned goal it made the game all the more difficult. In the second half we dominated more, but we didn’t have a clear chance on goal”.
According to Marcelino the Submarine should still be given credit after their 14 game unbeaten run in LaLiga came to an end tonight. “Losses always feel bad. We’ve gone 14 games without losing and sometimes we all forget how difficult it is to win in this league. You always want to win, but you don’t always achieve it. Las Palma came here on a good run having won their last two games. We have to analyse the mistakes we made, but this team gives everything everyday to win games. I’m sad that we lost today”, he commented.
The manager believes the key was in the Yellows’ finishing: “I don’t think we were really bad, but we need to be more clinical in the final third. We had the clearest chances of the game and we didn’t convert them. We can always improve and we’re self-critical. Las Palmas defended well in their area and showed how solid they can be”.
To finish Marcelino said the fairest result would have been a draw: “At other times we’ve won when a draw would have been fairer. We didn’t deserve to lose this match, but the team who scores the most goals wins and Las Palmas scored one and we didn’t score any”.
