The Villarreal head coach was frustrated with the performance in the defeat to Alavés
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral has expressed his frustration at his side’s narrow defeat to Deportivo Alavés, especially considering the numerical superiority of the Yellows in the second half.
“The first half was normal and the second half was marked by many circumstances. The injury to Sivera, which fortunately was just a scare, and from then on there was very little play, a lot of stoppage time. The Alavés players were on the floor for a long time, but that’s normal considering what they’re playing for. We didn’t know how to play that final stretch. Our start and all that time with numerical superiority is far from the way we should be. When that happens, it’s normal for the result to be a negative one. We have to congratulate Alavés and we have to correct our mistakes, as we made a lot of them in this game,” analysed Marcelino.
Finally, he spoke about how his side were unable to find a way to hurt their opponents: “In the last quarter of the match, I think we were able to dominate, but we weren’t able to before. We had a lot crosses of little danger. There were a lot of turnovers and individual actions that were of little use. We weren’t good and our opponents were more accurate. Alavés were more decisive in the penalty area and won the game.”
