The head coach was pleased with the point, but underlined his team’s superiority at El Sadar
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared in front of the media to analyse the draw at El Sadar (2-2) after an impressive second half where the Yellows were on top and managed to fight back from a two-goal deficit.
“We were much better than our opponents. We can say it’s a good point because we were losing 2-0, but today we deserved to win. The statistics say so. We had 17 shots, seven of which were on target, while they had three, and they had just seven and three on target. We were better with every number and that’s something really impressive against a tough opponent in Osasuna,” underlined the head coach, who used the opportunity to congratulate his players for their hard work.
The Groguets put in a great performance, like Marcelino said, led by Gerard Moreno, who was also praised after his return: “He performed magnificently. We’re really happy with him and happy for him. He’s had a bad time recently on a personal level because of the injuries he’s suffered. We know he’s a player who when he’s at his best, is really important, and now what we want is for him to have that continuity.”
Finally, the Yellows’ coach once more said that the eight absentees that Villarreal had could not be an excuse for their visit to El Sadar: “We came into the match after training really well and we knew that if we played well, we could win. And after what happened today, I still believe that, but I didn’t have any doubts. These boys show that they want to win and compete. They have the correct attitude and I’m really happy about that.”
