The Yellows coach has emphasised Real Betis’ accuracy and lamented the ease with which his side conceded goals
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral has appeared before the media to analyse his side’s frustrating defeat to Real Betis (1-2) at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
“We came into the game well, but then Betis dominated us. They scored a goal in the first chance they had. It’s something that’s been happening to us lately and we have to put it behind us. Then came the sending off and they were a man down. We dominated and we gave them the lead again by making a foul that we shouldn’t have made. We scored the first goal quickly and then it was a constant dominance to try to score the second. If we didn’t win it’s because Betis deserved it more than we did,” said the Asturian coach.
Marcelino was very critical of the ease with which the Submarine conceded goals: “We are the team that concedes the most goals at home. It’s a huge deficit. If we concede two goals in our own half, it’s very difficult to win games like that. If we don’t stop it, we won’t have a chance of finishing in the top half of the table.”
On the other hand, the coach has highlighted the great success of Real Betis, of which he assures that they deserved the victory: “They defended well. They defended well and the penalty areas were the deciding factor in the game. Betis didn’t have chances because they were a man down, but if you play with an extra man for an hour and you don’t win the game, you don’t deserve it.”
Finally, Marcelino underlines that we have to work to reverse these recent results: “We have to improve to get back to winning ways. We have lost freshness in the game and we have to recover it. We started the competition well and we’ve suffered a slump. It’s time to work.”
