The Villarreal head coach hailed his team’s hard work and thanked the fans for their support against Leganés
Villarreal CF coach Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media to analyse the Yellows’ important 3-0 home victory against CD Leganés, which leaves them just one step away from their exciting Champions League goal.
The Yellows’ coach expressed his enthusiasm for the Yellow Submarine’s victory over the Madrid side, which brings them within striking distance of competing in the top continental competition: “This victory puts us in an optimal position in the fight for the Champions League. I’m very proud and satisfied with the players’ work, not just today, but all season. This group deserves all the good things we’re getting.”
With fifth place very close, Marcelino is ambitious and hasn’t given up on fighting for fourth place: “The main thing is that we want to play in the Champions League. That was the big prize. And we’re fighting for fifth place, but we’re not giving up on dreaming of fourth. It would be a huge dream. We’ve had two matches in which, with Athletic Bilbao still to play, we’re tied on points. Now we know we’re going to a very difficult stadium, but we’ll try to compete there and then beat Sevilla at home.”
Finally, he had words of thanks for the fans of the Submarine, who had a great time during the match against Leganés: “For this city, Villarreal is very important. It’s emblematic. Both today and the rest of the season, we thank the fans for their support. They were phenomenal this evening. It’s true that we’re also giving them a lot of satisfaction this year. We have 64 points and we want people to enjoy their team in the Champions League next season.”
