Marcelino García Toral appeared in front of the media after his team’s convincing win against Real Valladolid CF (5-1)
The coach wanted to highlight his team’s second-half performance, emphasising the eye-catching play shown on the pitch: “In the second half we were the sparkling, dynamic, agile team that we know how to be. Playing like that, we can compete against anyone. In addition, we were as intense, quick and precise as we had not been in the first half. Before the second goal we had already created four or five chances of our own.”
Marcelino highlighted the good performance of the squad at the start of the year: “The month of December was very difficult with problems and injuries, we were almost without offensive players. With the players healthy, our squad is also good in terms of capacity and cohesion. I am very satisfied because the players from the bench have improved the level of the team and that is very important for the second half of the season. There are still many games left, we have to take it step by step, showing ambition in every game and every week.”
Finally, the coach emphasised the importance of being strong at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We have to be at home here at ease and make our opponents uncomfortable. In the first round we lost more points than we would have liked, and now we have to score much more than we did in the first round. We’re very satisfied with the team’s performance at home so far this season, it’s what we want and what we’re looking for.”
