The Yellows head coach praises his team’s performance against a tough Elche side
Villarreal head coach, Marcelino García Toral, appeared in a press conference after the match against Elche CF to analyse the Yellows‘ important and deserved victory against the side from Elche (1-3).
The head coach was very satisfied with the great win achieved in Elche: “It was a difficult match, as Elche’s home record shows, and we put in a great performance. We knew how to defend, progress, and finish. We managed to ensure Elche didn’t cause us too much danger, while we had the clearest chances. We’re very satisfied to win and get the three points where no one had done it before.”
In the same vein, Marcelino assured that the clinical finishing shown by his players in the early stages of the match was decisive in achieving the victory: “Taking the lead gives you a boost. Today we were clinical. We were more convincing in both boxes. We had the clearest chances and could have even scored more goals. Today we took the first chances we had, we got ahead and that gave us an advantage. We were solid, ensuring Elche didn’t create much against us.”
Due to everything that happened at the Martínez Valero, the Villarreal head coach praised the work of his players: “They put in a performance to be proud of. Despite recent results, the team is doing well and this victory confirms it. The feelings are good and today’s performance in the boxes proves it.”
Finally, Marcelino took stock of the Yellow Submarine‘s impressive numbers so far in the first half of the season: “We have 38 points with two matches left to finish the first half of the season. It’s incredible. We’ve only lost three matches against the big teams. It’s something to be very satisfied about.”
