The Villarreal head coach underlined his side’s hard work against Espanyol
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral explained after the 1-0 win over Espanyol that, despite the difficulties, the Yellows did more than enough to take all three points. “The most important thing today was the win. Maybe it wasn’t a matchball but it was a very important game. We were the only team that could win today and we did. We regained fifth place and got a little closer to Athletic. We feel strong on this pitch even if the results say otherwise. Maybe on the outside there could be doubts because the sending off conditioned us a lot the other day in Vigo, but behind closed doors there are none. It was a difficult victory, but a deserved one.”
He also highlighted that the Yellows had chances to win the game, although sometimes it takes a bit of suffering to finally get the prize: “We had chances to win the game, but that’s football. In football, what defines the results are the goals and, when you’re 1-0 down, everything is difficult. It happened to us the day against Girona, when they equalised in stoppage time, but today we managed to do it. And we deserved it against a very difficult team.”
