The Asturian head coach praised his team’s effort, who deserved to win despite the draw against Athletic Club
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke on Sunday after the 0-0 draw against Athletic Club at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The Asturian head coach highlighted the team’s good play, despite not getting the win against the Lions: ‘We wanted to win and we deserved to do so, but we failed to get it right and complete our good performance with a win. We had a great first half, while the second half was more evenly matched until we went a man down.”
Marcelino also pointed out that the performance against the ‘Rojiblancos’ should serve to make us stronger for the final part of the season: “If we can play like we did today, we’re going to score a lot of points. I’m satisfied with the game and the performance. We outplayed them. Athletic are a very difficult team. I’m happy, although it’s a shame we didn’t get the three points.”
Finally, he praised the effort of his players: “I’m very pleased with the image we gave today. We were playing fourth against fifth and today the fifth team was at a very high level. It’s a pity about the draw. We have to keep going. If we play at this level, more wins at home will come. I would be worried if our opponents outplayed us and we didn’t have chances. We just lack the finishing touch.”
