The Asturian coach becomes, with 259 official games, the manager with the most matches in the history of the Submarine
Marcelino has made history with Villarreal CF. After the clash at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Asturian coach became the manager with the most matches in the history of the Submarino, equalling the 259 games previously held by Manuel Pellegrini.
Across his two spells in charge of the Yellow team, Marcelino has won 128 matches, drawn 66, and lost just 65. These outstanding records place him among the best coaches in the club’s history.
Among his main achievements on the Villarreal bench, Marcelino led the Submarino’s most recent promotion to LALIGA in 2013, guided the team to the Europa League semifinals in 2016, and secured Champions League qualification for the Yellow team on two occasions (2016 and 2025).
