Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral expressed satisfaction with his team’s 2-2 draw against CA Osasuna at El Sadar. For the Asturian coach, the draw was a fair result in a very tough match for the Yellow Submarine.
Match analysis
“Osasuna had won the vast majority of their games at El Sadar. We went ahead, but our lead didn’t last long. It’s not the first time something like this has happened to us. From that moment on, we had to fight back. We controlled the first half, but with little finalisation. Everything seemed to go against us with Budimir’s goal, but then we reacted and secured a point that wasn’t easy. Overall, the draw is the fairest outcome. We are happy with the point after being 2-1 down.”
Goals conceded
“It’s clear that Osasuna scores 60% of their goals from set pieces, but I think the equaliser was easy to defend. We collapsed too much. Then the second goal came on a counterattack away from home. I am very satisfied with the players’ effort. The opponent pressed a lot, and it was very difficult.”
Gerard’s double
“This season we are seeing a Gerard who is showing his quality. If he stays consistent, his performance will continue to improve. We are trying to make sure he doesn’t suffer any muscular injuries.”
