The Asturian coach reaches this major milestone in the top flight with 96 victories
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral reached his 200th match in the First Division in charge of the Yellow Submarine in the game against Getafe. Despite the defeat against the Madrid side, the Asturian manager has built an impressive record of 96 wins, 51 draws and 53 losses.
The coach from Asturias has already become a living part of Villarreal CF history. He is the manager with the most matches in charge of the Yellow Submarine, with a remarkable total of 283 games coached.
Remarkable achievements across both spells
Marcelino has enjoyed two highly successful spells in the Villarreal dugout. He arrived in 2013, with the team in the Second Division, secured a crucial promotion and consolidated the club’s place in Europe in record time. He led the team back to the Champions League and reached the semi‑finals of both the Europa League and the Copa del Rey. In his second spell, he again took over the Submarine in a difficult moment, lifted the team up the table and, the following season, guided them back to Europe’s elite competition.
This season, under the Asturian’s leadership, Villarreal sit third in LALIGA, behind only FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. With 45 points and a game in hand, the Yellow Submarine are battling to secure another Champions League qualification alongside Atlético de Madrid and Real Betis — an achievement the club has never managed before in its history.
