Maccabi Haifa, next up in the Europa League

Villarreal will face the Israeli side on Thursday, with kick-off at 6:45pm CEST, at the AEK Arena in Cyprus

Maccabi Haifa Football Club are another of the teams that Villarreal will have to face in the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The Submarine’s next opponents were founded in 1913, but it was not until the 1980s that they became one of the leading lights of their domestic game. Now, the team coached by Messay Dego, who play their home game at the Sammy Ofer Stadium (30,780 spectators), are aiming to achieve the ambitious goal of progressing from the group stage of the competition for the first time in their history, which they reached after being eliminated 3-0 by Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Maccabi Haifa have played in European competition 28 times: 10 times in the UEFA Champions League, where they have won prestigious victories such as last season’s away win over Juventus, 12 appearances in the UEFA Europa League, one in the UEFA Europa Conference League, three in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and three in the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

In addition, they have won their domestic league fifteen times and the Cup on six occasions.

It should be noted that the match, which will be played tomorrow Thursday at 6:45pm CET, will take place, as announced by UEFA, at the AEK Arena in Larnaca, Cyprus.
