The player from Castellón has extended her contract with Villarreal Women for another season
Villarreal CF and Lucía Gómez García (11/10/1996, Castellón) have reached an agreement for the player from Castellón to continue representing the Yellows for another season. Lucía will remain linked to the club until 30th June 2025.
A decade as a Yellow
Lucía ‘Junior’ Gómez was formed in the Villarreal CF youth set-up. In fact, the player from Castellón played for the club for the first time in the 2006/07 season. After progressing through the ranks of the academy, ‘Junior’ made the leap to the first team at just 15 years of age, playing in the second division. In the 2013/14 season, after eight seasons defending the interests of the club from Vila-real, Lucía left with the aim of continuing to grow as a footballer and being able to enjoy playing time in the highest level of women’s football in Spain.
After seven seasons away, Lucía Gómez returned in the 2022/23 campaign to the club she considers her home, having now completed a decade as a Yellow, over two different periods.
An example to follow
On 30th September 2023, Lucía Gómez felt like a footballer again and, what’s more, she did it in yellow and at home: the Mini Estadi of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. The player from Castellón took the field after two years, three months and ten days on the sidelines due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee, the fourth of her career and the second in a row.
Since then, ‘Junior’ has shown her grit, talent, versatility and her desire to continue having fun on the pitch. Lucía Gómez, who can play both as a winger and as a full-back, has played a total of 757 minutes in 15 matches (693 minutes in 14 Liga F and 64 minutes in the Copa de la Reina).
