Today, 18th May 2019, is the 25th anniversary of Llaneza’s arrival at Villarreal CF
A quarter of a century of passion for Villarreal CF. Today, 18th May 2019, is the 25th anniversary of the arrival of José Manuel Llaneza (Puçol, 20/07/1948) at the club. A key moment in the history of the Yellow Submarine, which has not stopped growing since.
Llaneza arrived at the club thanks to Pascual Font de Mora, who in 1994 was head of the Villarreal leadership. An economist by profession, Llaneza arrived at the club as general manager. Later, he became CEO, and in 2011, he was named club vice-president.
With Llaneza as part of the leadership team, Villarreal CF has consolidated itself in the elite of Spanish football, with the 2019/20 season being the club’s 20th in the top flight. The Yellow Submarine has been league runner-up, and has played in European competition in 15 different season (13 if the Intertoto Cup does not count). The Yellows managed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2005/06 season, the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 2003/04, and the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in 2010/11 and 2015/16.
To commemorate these 25 years of José Manuel Llaneza at the club, Villarreal TV has a special series divided in five parts, which will be release over the coming days. The first of those (in Spanish) is now available, and can be enjoyed by clicking the video tab.
The five parts of the #Llaneza25anys (#Llaneza25years) special are as following:
