The Yellows will play their first match of 2018 at the Butarque stadium
LaLiga has announced the times and dates for the Copa del Rey Round of 16 matches, in which Villarreal will play against CD Leganés. The first leg of the cup tie will be played on 4th January at the Butarque stadium at 7pm CET (live on beIN Sports).
This fixture will be Villarreal’s first of 2018 after Javi Calleja’s side come back from their Christmas holidays. The return leg, at the Estadio de la Cerámica, will be played the following week, between 9th and 11th January.
Cup history with the blue-and-whites
There is Copa del Rey history between Villarreal and Leganés, as both teams faced each other in the Round of 64 in the 1999/2000 season. In the first leg, played at the El Madrigal stadium, as Villarreal’s ground was formerly known, Leganés beat the Yellows 0-1 (James Madariaga), but the Yellow Submarine got through to the next round after a 0-3 win in the second leg (Jorge López, Alfaro and Javi Gracia).
