The Yellow Submarine are in action at Elland Road (Saturday, 4pm CEST)
Villarreal CF and Leeds United will face off in a pre-season friendly on 2nd August at 4pm CEST at Elland Road. After taking part in the commemorative triangular tournament against Real Oviedo and Genoa CFC, the Yellow Submarine will now play another pre-season fixture.
This will be the second meeting between the two clubs, whose only previous encounter was a friendly played in the summer of 2021. That match ended in a draw, with Villarreal’s efforts coming from Dani Raba and an own goal.
A historic English club
Leeds United were founded on 17th October 1919 and are regarded as one of the most historic and traditional clubs in English football. Among their main honours are three English league titles, one FA Cup, one English League Cup and two Community Shields. It’s also worth highlighting their appearance in the European Cup final in the 1974/75 season, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
Leeds United are popularly known as the ‘Whites’ due to their all-white kit. They play their home matches at Elland Road, a 40,000-capacity stadium located in the county of West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Next season, the side from Yorkshire will return to the Premier League after winning promotion as champions of the English Championship. German coach Daniel Farke was the man behind their return to the top flight.
The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Eric Cantona and Raphinha have all worn the Leeds United shirt. A player who links both clubs is Alfonso Pedraza, currently at Villarreal CF, who played for Leeds United in the 2016/17 season, making 14 appearances.
