The Argentine defender returned to play in an official match more than a year later
Juan Foyth has made his Villarreal CF return to the Villarreal CF jersey. The Argentine defender came on in the second half to play the last 16 minutes -plus added time- of the match against Rayo Vallecano, corresponding to Matchday 12 of LALIGA EA Sports, which was postponed due to the flooding that hit the south of Valencia in the last days of October.
The Argentina international’s last official appearance for the Submarine was more than a year ago, on 14th December 2023 in a UEFA Europa League group stage match against Stade Rennes. The Yellows No.8 returned from that injury in pre-season. With such bad luck, he was injured again. It was on 2nd August against Nottingham Forest. He received a heavy blow that resulted in a bruise to the medial collateral ligament of his left knee.
After the 1-1 draw at La Cerámica, Juan Foyth spoke to the media, expressing his happiness: “During the whole summer and pre-season I felt very well and I had an injury that left me out again, that’s just football.” The Argentinean wanted to emphasise the support he has had: “I kept working with the help of my teammates, retrainers and above all my family. Even though they were hard months, I’ve been able to come back.”
On the ovation he received from the fans, he commented: “Honestly, I was surprised, I know I’m loved by the fans, I love the club and the people, I’ve grown very fond of them, I’m very grateful for the affection shown.”
Finally, he assessed the team’s situation: “Despite everything, despite the circumstances, the team gave everything on the pitch, today we showed that we are a very united team. This latest run of form is not the best, but the team started the league very well and I’m sure we’ll get back to that form.”
