The Villarreal Women head coach warns of the challenge posed by Sunday’s clash (12pm CEST)
Villarreal Women head coach Jordi Ferriols spoke to the media on Friday to analyse the current situation of the yellow side ahead of Sunday’s match against Barcelona B on Pitch 5 of the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza (12pm CEST).
Ferriols highlighted the appeal of the match against the B team, saying it is a very exciting game between second and third. “That’s what the table says right now, but we know how tough this league is — it doesn’t matter if you’re playing third or last. It’s a very demanding competition. We have to be ready for whatever happens on Sunday,” he explained.
He also reflected on the team’s run of four consecutive wins while emphasising the difficulty of the league. “The league is very long, and the players understand the message and know our objectives. We need to take it step by step and stay grounded, but we also have to enjoy it when we win four games in a row,” Ferriols added.
Regarding the game plan, he expects a demanding and very evenly matched encounter. “It’s going to be a very complicated game, and we’ll have to maintain a high level of intensity and concentration without the ball. Barcelona B are a team that likes to have possession, but we also need to be ready for when we have the ball. We have our strengths in possession and must be able to dominate and keep the ball. We want to go toe-to-toe, where whoever is sharper will have more chances,” the coach said.
Finally, Ferriols highlighted the B team’s main strengths and the importance of remaining solid throughout the match. “Barcelona B are a very fast, talented team, standing out for the individual qualities of their players, no matter who starts. Again, we need to be ready without the ball and also enjoy it when we have it, especially since we’re playing at home. The key will be to maintain concentration for the full 90 minutes and be effective in both areas,” he concluded.
