The Villarreal Women’s head coach analyses the final stretch of the season and the upcoming challenge against Alavés
Villarreal Women’s head coach, Jordi Ferriols, appeared before the media this Friday to analyse the match against Deportivo Alavés, corresponding to Matchday 24 of the 2024/25 Primera Federación season, which will be played this Sunday at the Ciudad Deportiva José Luis Compañón, starting at 12.30pm CEST.
Current situation
“We face the match with the responsibility it requires, because we are in a complicated situation. Now we are playing against the league leaders. They also have to win. We have to win. It will be a competitive game and we have to try to go for the win.”
A difficult match against Deportivo Alavés
“I think Primera Federación is a very competitive league. Alavés are a team that, on an individual level, have very powerful players, especially the latest addition Sanadri, who is a striker who comes from the top flight. But I think we’ve worked very well, we’ve deserved more results than we’ve got so far. The two-week break has been very good for us and we’ve worked on our handling of situations in the penalty areas, which is the point I think we needed to improve and we’re convinced that we can take the three points, and we need to take those three points as well. It will be a very difficult game. Alavés are a very strong team, but we have our own strengths and we’ve prepared ourselves to try and get the win, and we’re confident. On an emotional level, I think we’ve taken a step forward. Alavés are a very strong team, but we have our own arguments and we’ve prepared ourselves to try and get the win, and we’re confident that we’ve taken a step forward on an emotional level.”
Giving 100 per cent
“We need 100 per cent from each other. Now we have had time to work. Trust in the process and now carry out everything we’ve been working on individually with the players, because collectively we’ve been seeing that.”
Being solid in defence
“It will be a game in which we have to be aware that there will be times when we won’t have the ball. We will have to be very organised defensively and be prepared to take our chances and be effective in those opportunities.”
