The Villarreal Women head coach warns of the difficulty of the upcoming clash against Real Madrid B (Saturday, 4pm CET)
Villarreal Women head coach Jordi Ferriols spoke to the media on Thursday to analyse the current situation of the team ahead of this Saturday’s match against Real Madrid B at Pitch 5 of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground (4pm CET).
To begin, Ferriols highlighted the positive reaction of the team after conceding a late defeat against Valencia Féminas last weekend: “The team is fine. These things happen in football. We must focus on the work and the effort shown by the players, both with and without the ball. That is the path we need to follow if we want to stay at the top.”
The Vila-real-born coach also felt the team competed at a good level: “We saw our identity on the pitch. We had chances to take the lead. We knew they would put us under pressure at times, but the team responded well, and that’s important.”
Looking ahead to the next league fixture, Ferriols warned of the difficulty of playing against Real Madrid’s B team: “It’s always very tough to play against B teams. These are players who train regularly with the first team and are very well prepared. They have many strengths with the ball, but we must stick to our principles, especially in possession.”
Regarding the type of match he expects, the head coach outlined the keys to competing against the Madrid side: “It will be a very demanding match without the ball. They are a very dynamic team, they identify spaces extremely well, and individually they are strong in duels. On the ball, they sometimes struggle to fully respect their own principles. We need to be very united defensively, stay sharp and disciplined, and respect our game model.”
