Fernando Roig has celebrated the return to normality and calls on fans to fill the Estadio de la Cerámica in a Champions League campaign

Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig appeared in front of the media in the press room at the Estadio de la Cerámica to analyse the current situation at the club, after the Yellows were allowed to return to 100% capacity.

Roig celebrated the return to normality and called on fans to get Villarreal CF season tickets: “It’s the best moment to get a season ticket. We’re starting to return to normality. We now have 100% capacity allowed in football games. We’ve put together a great team, and we’ve just won our first title. We want to enjoy a great season like this with our fans.”

After backing a season-ticket campaign where all season-ticket holders from last season were renewed for free, Roig underlined that fans still have time to get theirs for a season with the Champions League: “We renewed all of our season-ticket holders for free, they were with us when things weren’t certain due to the healthcare situation. This year, we’ve broken the 18,000-season-ticket holder mark, but we don’t want to conform with that. We would like to reach 20,000. We encourage everyone from throughout the province to get their season ticket and enjoy it with us.”

The Yellows president also explained the club’s economic model, based on two fundamental pillars: economic health and the academy. “We’ve been focused on this philosophy for more than 20 years. After the relegation in 2012, we strengthend our focus on these two things even more, and we looked to grow from there.”

As Roig says, the support for youth football can be seen reflected with youngsters such as Yeremy Pino consolidating their place in the first team: “At Villarreal, we give opportunities to young players. Yeremy is a kid with a lot of talent and he’s had his chance to play with the first team and compete at the highest level. His case is a good example of our philosophy.”

Finally, the president underlined that he does not want to put a ceiling on the project, which reached its highest point earlier this year in 2021, with the UEFA Europa League: “We’re not putting a ceiling on what we can do. We will reach where we’re capable of reaching. We’re competing with a lot of teams, some of them who are in really good conditions. With our armoury, we want to grow as an entity. We’re on that path. We’ve won a title now, something that is extremely tough to do. We want to continue moving forward and we have our fans behind us. We are looking to continue to grow and do it alongside our fans. Because of that, we invite everyone who hasn’t got their season ticket yet to come and enjoy the team.”
