The U19s beat Numancia in their first match of the tournament with goals from Galdón (2) and Gonzaga
Villarreal’s U19s (Juvenil A) are into the semi-finals of the Copa de Campeones, which is taking place in Vigo. The Yellows beat Numancia in the quarter-finals thanks to two goals from Galdón and another from Gonzagoa, which meant that the first goal from Ebrahima did not mean anything in the end (3-1). Now, the U19s will face the winners of the tie between Real Madrid and Sevilla.
The Yellows could have gone ahead in the 16th minute. Collado was subject of a clear penalty after a spectacular piece of play where he escaped his marker on the touchline, before being brought down. Álex Baena took the responsibility from the spot, but Antonio Varea guessed which way to dive, and pulled off a great save.
In the 40th minute, the Yellows had bad news. Collado suffered a muscle injury and had to leave the pitch. Just after that, the goal to make it 0-1 went to Numancia. Ebrahima brought down a long ball and with his right foot, placed it into the bottom corner (m.41).
Miguel Ángel Tena’s side responded quickly. Baena got away from a number of opponents and played it across to the back post for Galdón to head home (1-1, m.43). A great piece of play from the Yellows No.14 and a perfect header from the No.14.
In the second half, the Yellows U19s could have gone in front with a great chance. Baena played a great through ball for Fer Niño, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but was unable to beat him (m.47).
The goal to make it 2-1 came in the 55th minute. Galdón made the most of a bad pass by a Numancia defender to dummy the keeper and score into an empty net. A brace.
In the space of five minutes, the U19s killed off the match. Gonzaga made it 3-1, poaching a loose ball in the area (m.60).
Villarreal will play in the Copa de Campeones semi-finals at 5pm CEST this Wednesday. The match will be at A Madroa, between the winner of the tie between Real Madrid and Sevilla.
