The Italian-German footballer Roberto Soriano says he is feeling good in that position
Roberto Soriano came to Villarreal this summer and since his arrival has been playing well out on the wing. With Fran Escribá’s 4-4-2 formation, the Italian-German footballer realises that he is best playing on either wing for the Yellows, even though he played more in the middle in Italy: “The manager uses a 4-4-2 and so I’m playing on the wing. In Italy we played with three in the middle of the pitch and I was one of the two attacking midfielders. Here we play with two more defensive midfielders and so with this system my best position is out wide. I just try to give my best”.
Soriano believes the team should have picked up more than just two points in the first two LaLiga matches: “We haven’t had a fortunate start. We’ve played better than our opponents, but we haven’t managed to win. The only thing that’s missing is the win and I hope it comes in the next match against Málaga. We’re motivated to go and get an important three points in Málaga. In the first matches we played well and we deserved to get more than the two points we’ve got. If we play against Málaga like we’ve been playing lately I’m sure the result will be positive”.
The Yellow number 20 said it was a blow not to get through to the UEFA Champions League, but he remains optimistic for the future: “It’s a shame not to have got through to the Champions League, but there’s a long season ahead and we’re really excited about it”.
Lastly, Soriano compared Spanish football with Italian football: “In Italy it’s a more tactical game and the matches aren’t as attractive. It’s difficult to create many goal scoring opportunities because the teams are strong defensively. Here in Spain more chances on goal are created and the football is more attacking and very technical”.
