Marcelino, while stressing caution, emphasised that his goal is to maintain the same ambition and mentality to keep improving
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media this Sunday to analyse his side’s victory against Girona FC (5-0) in Matchday 2 of LALIGA EA Sports.
The Yellows boss began by assessing the match and the win: “The team was at a very high level, with the ball, without the ball and in all phases of the game.” He also took the opportunity to thank the players for their performance: “I am proud and grateful for what the players have given us today on the pitch.”
On the defensive side and after keeping a second consecutive clean sheet, Marcelino was optimistic: “We have to take into account that against Oviedo we played with a man advantage for a long time, but today I think we did very well because Girona practically had no chances.”
Nevertheless, despite the resounding victory, Marcelino called for prudence and humility: “This is the path to follow, always starting from humility but with that ambition and mentality for what is to come.”
The head coach also underlined the difficulty of repeating such a performance: “It is hard to play with the precision and speed that we did today, it is not easy.” He particularly highlighted the improvement without the ball: “In training the team shows a great level, and today we took a step forward without the ball — precision, quick recoveries and solidarity.”
Finally, looking ahead to upcoming fixtures, Marcelino was cautious in his words: “We have to focus on the day-to-day and the immediate, which is to recover and prepare for the game against Celta.”
