A Leganés goal left the B team no reward for their good performance

Villarreal B were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Butarque by the leaders of Segunda. Miguel Álvarez’s men put in a great performance and were the better side in the first half, but a solitary headed goal from one of Leganés’ few chances and the sending off of Espigares complicated the outcome of the game.

Miguel Álvarez brought Diego Collado back into the starting line-up for the first time after his injury. It didn’t take long for Jorge Pascual to make an early warning with a run into the six-yard box after just two minutes. Javi Ontiveros also tried his luck with a powerful shot from the edge of the area. The Mini Submarine were the better side in the opening stages and maintained possession throughout the first half, but the scoreboard remained unchanged before the break.

However, luck smiled on the home side and in the first dangerous move of the second half they took the lead thanks to Sergio’s header from an indirect free kick. And to the Yellows’ dismay, Espigares was sent off for a straight red card, making it even more difficult for the home side to mount a comeback.

The Mini Submarine’s next league fixture takes place on Saturday 4th November at 4.15pm CET against Real Sporting at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
