The reserve team lose to Real Sporting at La Cerámica
Villarreal B lost at La Cerámica against Real Sporting (0-3). The side coached by Miguel Álvarez were punished by the attacking prowess and forcefulness of the visitors, who showed their strength and experience at the Yellows’ home ground.
The Asturian team took an early lead. Just after the third minute of the game, Otero finished off a ball from a corner to make it 1-0 at La Cerámica.
The visitor’s goal was a hard blow for Villarreal B, who reacted with skill and a lot of football. Requena and Javi Ontiveros were finding space with precision, but the Groguets were unable to convert their good play into clear-cut chances.
The best chance came a little later when Lekovic, in one of his attacking forays, made a huge save and sent a header from the heart of the box against the post. It was close to an equaliser from the Serbian defender.
In the second half, Sporting Gijon showed impressive experience and punished the Mini Submarine on the counter-attack. In a quick transition, Campu made it 0-2 at La Cerámica (57′). A quarter of an hour later, Cote extended the lead again with pace down the left flank.
With the score at 0-3, Miguel Álvarez’s team gained metres in attack and looked to make the breakthrough. Aitor Gelardo had a fantastic chance to pull one back, but once again, fortune was not in Villarreal B’s favour. The Yellows failed to score at La Cerámica.
