Villarreal B had more chances than Castellón, but neither side could get on the scoreboard
Villarreal B deserved more against Castellón in an exciting derby that took place at a packed Mini Estadi in the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). The Yellows Reserves had a number of good goalscoring chances, although it is true that the away side had a great opportunity at the end of the match that fell to Jamelli. With this result, the Mini Submarine stay top of the table.
The match was fast-paced from the start. Villarreal B wanted more of the ball against a well-organised Castellón defence. Simón Moreno, Mario González, Ramón Bueno and Nikola Vujnovic all went close to scoring in the first half.
The clearer opportunities to break the deadlock came in the second half. Simón’s header from close range made Álvaro Campos make a great save. The Castellón goalkeeper became his team’s standout player as the match went on. He really shone when Xavi Quintillà’s cross from the left was met by Mario. It looked a certain goal but Campos pulled off a piece of magic to keep it out (m. 65). Only two minutes later, Mario once again tried to score, but his shot skimmed the post.
The away side had their best chance late on after Cubillas brought the ball down and Jamelli fired wide.
At full-time, both sides took their share of the points at the Mini Estadi and Villarreal B stayed top of the table for another matchday.
