The Catalan striker scored Villarreal’s two goals against Orihuela (1-2)
Two crucial goals in Orihuela. Gerard Moreno found the back of the net once more, to keep Villarreal CF in the Copa del Rey. The Catalan striker, who now has ten goals this season with the Submarine (eight in LaLiga and two in the Copa del Rey), took to the pitch in the second half and was the main man when he scored. “I’m happy to be able to help the team with my goals. That’s my job and I’ll try and continue doing it,” recognised the Yellows No.7 after the match against Orihuela (1-2).
During the tie, Javi Calleja’s side had a number of chances but were denied by the home team: “We did have a lot of chances, but we had to dig in. Orihuela were really good, you have to congratulate them, they made it very difficult for us. Our aim was to get through and we’ve done that. However, this match needs to be a warning for us. If we don’t give 100%, it’s hard to win games.”
After the win against Orihuela, Villarreal now have five consecutive victories, which sees the Yellows go into the game with RCD Espanyol (Sunday, 4pm CET) full of confidence: “We want to keep up this good run. We’re playing at home and we always want to get the three points. We’re facing an opponent who’ve recently changed their manager and put in a good performance against FC Barcelona in the last LaLiga match.”
