A spectacular victory for Villarreal against Real Sociedad and the undefeated streak continues
Villarreal hit harder. The Submarine picked up a hugely important win against Real Sociedad at the Estadio de la Cerámica (4-2) and make it six games unbeaten in the league with five wind and one draw. Stellar.
Javi Calleja’s side sentenced the match in the first 45 minutes with a dream first half performance in front of goal followed by a solid defensive display in the second half. The Yellows’ goals were courtesy of Víctor Ruiz, Pablo Fornals, Carlos Bacca and Samu Castillejo, while Llorente and Willian José netted for Real Sociedad.
The first half was, simply, magic. Villarreal scored four goals to sign off a spectacular first half performance. The first was converted after just 4 minutes of play when Samu Castillejo played a perfectly executed corner kick into the box and Víctor Ruiz, arriving like a steam train, smashed it into the back of the net with his head (1-0, m. 4).
Giving the visitors no time to react, Villarreal added a third. Good counterattacking play and a through ball by Enes Ünal sent Carlos Bacca on his way, who took the ball around Toño with great speed and passed the ball into the open net (3-0, m.19).
Real Sociedad pulled one back thanks to a header by Llorente (3-1, m. 23), but Villarreal struck again. The Yellows’ fourth and final goal of the night was scored by Samu Castillejo. The Yellow number 10 received the ball on the right wing, left his defender for dead and hit a screamer of a strike into the far corner of the goal (4-1, m. 33). End to end stuff.
Eusebio’s side did not give up though. In fact, they managed to pull another goal back in the second half as Willian José hit a powerful shot into the bottom corner of Asenjo’s net from the edge of the box (4-2, m. 57).
From then on Villarreal were solid. Unbreakable at the back to make sure they came away with the three very important points. Villarreal’s next league clash is against Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín stadium (Saturday, 4:15pm CET).
