Villarreal B, despite going ahead on the scoreboard, draw against an aggressive Recreativo de Huelva side in a frenetic match
Villarreal B dominated much of the game in Huelva, taking a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute. However, a Recreativo de Huelva side in need, taking advantage of some defensive errors by the Yellows, knew how to react, bringing the scores level twice to make the final score 3-3. The Yellows’ goals came from Dani Requena, Víctor Valverde and Etta Eyong.
The first 45 minutes of the game were dominated by Villarreal B from start to finish. Proof of this was the move that saw Dani Requena take centre stage in the tenth minute, as the Yellows midfielder had a double chance, although the referee ended up signalling offside. Shortly afterwards it was Etta Eyong who tried a long-range effort. The intentions were more than clear.
Espigares also had his chance, after a corner kick, and Víctor Valverde, after a pass from Cristo. The reward came in the 34th minute after a magnificent team move. Víctor Valverde played the ball to Cristo, who, from the left flank, put in a perfect cross into the area for Dani Requena to finish the ball off and put the ball past the Huelva keeper (0-1). Recreativo de Huelva had a great chance from a set piece, but it was cancelled out by a good save from Rubén Gómez.
Just before half-time, Etta Eyong scored the second goal for the Yellows. However, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The second half was a real madness. Just after coming out of the dressing room, Víctor Valverde recovered the ball, dribbled past the Huelva defenders, and scored the second for the Yellows (0-2, min. 48).
However, despite Miguel Álvarez’s side’s domination of the ball, the home side were able to take advantage of two mistakes by the Mini Submarine to level the score. Caye Quintana scored the first in the 53rd minute and, shortly after, in the 57th minute, it was Luis Alcalde who scored the equaliser.
Villarreal B had not yet said it all on the pitch and it showed. Etta Eyong was leading a counter-attack when the Huelva goalkeeper brought him down inside the area. The Cameroonian scored the third goal of the game and the thirteenth of the season (2-3, min. 62). Unfortunately for Miguel Álvarez’s men, luck was not to be on their side. In the 87th minute, Caye Quintana equalised again with a shot from the edge of the area (3-3).
The eight minutes of stoppage time, which saw both teams go off the boil, including the sending off of Thiago Ojeda for a straight red card, was to no-one’s advantage and the game ended 3-3 at the Nuevo Colombino.
