Villarreal B get their third win in a row, and have gone from being bottom of the table to fighting for promotion in just a week
Villarreal B ended a magical week with a visit to the Rico Pérez, where they picked up their third win in a row, beating Hércules (0-2) with goals from Víctor and Quintero. Both players also proved to be a driving force in a fantastic second half for Miguel Álvarez’s side.
The victory means that the Yellows, in just seven days, go from last place in the table to just one point away from the promotion play-off places.
The first half was very intense. So much so that the first action provided the Yellow Submarine’s best chance of the game. Barely five minutes in, Etta Eyong controlled the ball on the edge of the area and ended up passing to Pau Cabanes, who was brought down in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
The referee did not hesitate: clear penalty for Miguel Álvarez’s team. Four minutes later, Tiago tried to deceive Carlos Abad from eleven meters with a Panenka, but the goalkeeper, who was quick to react, managed to save the ball with his hand to stop the shot.
After the penalty, the game became a little more tense, with several moments of stoppage play and two teams in an open battle for control of the game. The tough battle was reflected in two goals, one for each team, but both were disallowed and the score remained unchanged.
The second half decreased in intensity, but not in excitement. Miguel Álvarez looked to the bench and brought on Víctor and Quintero, both of whom turned the game on its head. Villarreal B settled down and became an uncomfortable and elusive team for Hércules.
The first blow came in the 66th minute, when Víctor received a good pass from the left by Solà. The Granada-born player, reached the touchline, and running out of space, slipped the ball between the legs of the Hércules goalkeeper to make it 0-1.
The goal stunned Hercules, who looked to equalise, but weren’t using their head, and hardly challenged the visitors in defence. In stoppage time, Hugo Pérez’s long ball found Quintero, who, went through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and made it 0-2 for the Mini Submarine. Game, set and match for Villarreal B.
The next match for Miguel Álvarez’s team will be on Sunday 24th November against Atlético de Madrid B at the Mini Estadi (7:30pm CET).
