The Villarreal Femenino coach previews Saturday’s clash against Atlético de Madrid B (12:00 p.m.)
Villarreal Femenino head coach Jordi Ferriols spoke to V Play this Friday to assess the team’s current situation ahead of Saturday’s 12:00 p.m. fixture against Atlético de Madrid B at the Ciudad Deportiva Alcalá de Henares.
Strong momentum
“The team is doing very well. Our performances were already good and now we’ve managed to secure two consecutive wins. This is an ambitious squad. We know we have to push for a third, and we’re heading to Madrid with that intention.”
A hard-earned win over Deportivo Alavés
“It was a very entertaining match to watch, highly competitive from both sides. Alavés are a strong team with very good players. We showed that we are too, and that our goal is to stay near the top and keep moving forward. There are seven games left and we have to go for it.”
Aixa Salvador
“At the end of the day, a striker’s job—like every position—is to work for the team. They must fulfil their role and, eventually, the goals come. In Aixa’s case, she has improved her numbers compared to last week. We’re very happy with her, just as we are with the rest of the squad.”
The opponent
“I think Atlético de Madrid B have slightly changed their structure. They’ve gone from a 4-3-2-1 to a diamond 4-4-2. We’ve worked on both scenarios that could arise. They’re a reserve side, and they have very talented players. We need to be prepared, match their level of competitiveness and be ready for whatever comes. I expect a team that has many attacking resources with the ball. They overload the wide areas to create superiority and get numbers into the box. Without the ball, I think we’ll be able to play and impose our own strengths. As always, we must be clinical in both boxes.”
