Escribá: “We want to keep improving”

The Manager was hopeful in today’s press conference as his contract renewal was made official

At midday today, the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) hosted the press conference that made Fran Escribá’s contract renewal official as Villarreal CF Manager for next season. The event was led by Fernando Roig, and Vice President José Manuel Llaneza and CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles were also present, as well as Fran Escribá himself.

The Manager expressed his satisfaction and ambition for the future: “The start wasn’t easy, but we all kept rowing in the same direction and had a great season. We want to keep growing by being reliable and our we want next year to be better than this in terms of play, despite the difficulties we will have, as the opponents are getting better and better. This club would not be what it is if it had not been ambitious. I’m joining that ambition”, he stated.

Fran Escribá came to Villarreal CF last season and under his management the team finished the season in fifth place in the LaLiga Santander. In fact, this result made him the Manager to have achieved the most points in his first full season in charge in the First Division. Escribá did this by picking up 67 points in the 2016/17 season. “I want to improve on what was already done well. We’ve improved in attack, in goals for and against”, he recalled.

With regard to objectives for next season, Escribá demands a lot: “We have to find the balance because Europa games cause a lot of fatigue. We have to think about the cup (Copa del Rey) and the Europa League, but our priority is the league”.

Fernando Roig: “We’ve had a great season”

For his part, the Villarreal CF President, Fernando Roig, praised the work done by the Manager and the players: “We’ve had a great season. I can only thank the coaching staff and players because it has been a great victory. To finish fifth in LaLiga is really difficult”.
