The Villarreal head coach felt the draw was fair and was happy with his side’s commitment against Maccabi Tel Aviv
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery analysed the point earned in the tie against Maccabi Tel Aviv (1-1): “We controlled the first half. After their goal, we weren’t capable of keeping the same balance of play as we did in the first half. But in the second half, we can learn a lot, due to the various circumstances they score a goal and the game is completely different from then on. The draw is probably fair.”
For Emery, the Yellows need to continue to be demanding: “We’ve got small margins, and when we have a day like today, we can recover from mistakes. I think the team put in a good performance. In terms of commitment, we’re happy, but we need to be demanding of the idea that if we want to do something important, we need to find ourselves in fewer situations like that.”
Finally, the Basque manager looked ahead to the Submarine’s upcoming challenges: “The aims is for the team to find the performances at the demanding level we want. In this Europa League, we want to have a nice journey, and in LaLiga, we want to be comfortably in the medium-to-high positions.”
