Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the draw at the Wanda Metropolitano (2-2): “Leaving the emotional side of things aside, the match had positive aspects. We need to be capable of being a team for everything. We need to know how to defend, to be solid, and today we were. From that base, we need to grow. We knew how to wait for our opportunities and we scored two magnificent goals. The victory slipped out of our grasp because of an error. A misunderstanding.”
The Basque manager underlined his frustration at the unfortunate piece of play that stopped the Submarine from getting the win in the Spanish capital: “Drawing like that hurts. We had already had two draws in LaLiga, and on paper, getting a result away to Atlético de Madrid isn’t a bad result, but given how the game turned out, it’s not a positive point for us.”
