Senegal and Ecuador join Spain, the Netherlands and Argentina as teams that have qualified for the World Cup with ‘groguets’ players in the squads
The Villarreal CF internationals had a lot of excitement on this matchday for the national teams. Boulaye Dia scored a vital goal in the clash between Senegal and Egypt, which ended in a victory (1-0*, 3-1 on penalties) and resulting in qualification for the ‘Lions of Teranga’ to the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
It was not the same for Aïssa Mandi and Samu Chukwueze. Algeria lost 2-1 to Cameroon, who sealed qualification on away goals. The first leg ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the Fennec Foxes. The double draw between Ghana and Nigeria, 0-0 in the first leg and 1-1 in the second, also failed to earn the Super Eagles a place in the all-important global tournament.
Ecuador also qualified for the World Cup this international matchday. Pervis Estupiñán will be at Qatar 2022. Despite the ‘Tricolor’ losing to Paraguay, the Ecuadorian national team booked their place in the World Cup after the victories of Uruguay against Peru and Brazil against Chile.
Argentina, represented by the ‘groguets’ Gero Rulli, Juan Foyth and Tiago Geralnik, had already secured their place at the 2022 World Cup. That was also the case for the Spanish national team of Pau Torres and Yeremy Pino, as well as the Netherlands, the national team in which Arnaut Danjuma is playing in.
