The Yellows were unable to do anything against the Navarrese side despite going ahead early on through Irene Miguélez’s goal
Villarreal Women had the perfect chance to make up for their league defeat in the last outing against Real Madrid B, in the only match in the league this weekend, with Virginia García’s side facing CA Osasuna, in the match that was postponed from Matchday 8 due to the terrible natural disaster in Valencia. However, the Yellows were unable to add to their points total, despite going ahead in the 15th minute through an Irene Miguélez goal. They stay fourth in the table, with 17 points, two behind the team in third.
The Yellows knew how to dominate and create danger early on in the match. In fact, with 15 minutes gone, Miguélez’s powerful effort flew inot the back of the net to make it 1-0. However, the away side fought back quickly. In the 29th minute, Carmen Carbonell was capable of stopping a María Barquero effort in a one-on-one. However, the rebound fell to Osasuna, and Yiyi equalised (1-1). Moments later, Yiyi who threatened again, but it only ended in a scare for the Yellows. Both teams went to half-time with it being all square on the pitch.
After the break, the Yellows started to notice the absence of importance players due to injuries, and also suffered against the physical superiority of Josu Domínguez’s side. In the 51st minute, María Barquero put her side away, after a corner (1-2). Osasuna went further ahead in the 62nd minute with an Elena Valej goal (1-3), with the midfielder capitalising on a loose ball in the box.
Virginia García’s side didn’t give up and tried to push forward, but weren’t clinical in attack. Lucía Gómez got on the end of a cross from Nerea Pérez, but her effort ended up in the goalkeeper’s hands. Lauris was unable to use her speed to cause Osasuna problems, and Aixa Salvador’s cross ended up going over the bar. Despite this, the match ended without the Yellows being able to pull one back.
