It wasn’t to be. Villarreal fell by the narrowest of margins on their visit to La Rosaleda (1-0). The Yellows gave their all at every moment of the match but weren’t able to come away with any points from Andalusia. The Yellow Submarine tried everything, but in the end a goal from the penalty spot by Chory was enough to give the home side the win.
It was a first half with few chances. Villarreal aimed to dominate the middle of the park from the start, but the Andalusians started strong and looked dangerous on the attack. Despite Málaga’s onslaught, the Yellow Submarine stood strong, well organised and began to win the ball back in defence.
Even though the Submarine started to domiante possession and close in on Roberto’s goal, Málaga bit back on the counterattack and ten minutes before the break they got their reward. After good play by Rolan, the Uruguayan was brought down in the box after Asenjo came out to claim the ball and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot. Chory stepped up for the locals and made no mistake with his penalty to give Málaga the lead.
In the second half the Yellows came out renenergized and focused on making the comeback, but Málaga were comfortable. Sitting back awaiting the Submarine attack and waiting to win the ball back and counter quickly. Javi Calleja tried to turn the game around with the fresh legs of Enes Ünal, Dani Raba and Roger Martínez and the Yellows tried everything, but in the end Chory’s penalty was enough to give Málaga the triumph.
