The away side came from behind to leave Villarreal B without reward in the final stretch of the second half
Villarreal B lost to FC Cartagena (1-2). The visitors, with goals from Ayllón and Ortuño in the final stages of the game, left the visitors, who were the better side in the closing stages of the game, without reward. The visitors, with goals from Ayllón and Ortuño in the final stretch, left the Mini Submarine, who were the better side in the first half, without reward.
The early stages of the match produced a lot of excitement and a frenetic pace. Miguel Álvarez’s side took an early lead. Álex Forés headed home Carlos Romero’s fantastic cross from the left flank. A few minutes earlier, Iker Álvarez had denied the visitors a goal with a spectacular one-on-one save.
The home side’s goal stirred Cartagena into life, and by the midway point of the first half, they had taken possession of the ball at La Ceramica. Faced with this situation, Miguel Álvarez’s team, in a fantastic exercise of adaptation and reading of the game, turned to direct play, with which they took a step forward and gained presence in the opposition half.
On the hour mark in the second half, Cartagena came close to an equaliser when Ayllon’s shot from the edge of the area went narrowly wide of Iker Álvarez’s goal. A few minutes later, the ’35’ Cartagena player tried again with a header that did not find the target.
In the 71st minute, and after two serious warnings, Ayllón made it 1-1 at La Cerámica. The visiting striker, who had only recently come onto the pitch, scored with a powerful shot from close range, after taking advantage of a back-heeled pass from Ortuño. Cartagena equalised.
The Yellows were not happy with the equaliser and, in less than five minutes, Cartagena, through Ortuño, scored the second goal. It was a harsh blow for the Mini Submarine, who after a fantastic hour of play, saw the game slip away from them in two moves at La Cerámica.
With five minutes to go, the Mini Submarine came close to an equaliser when Dani Requena’s shot from the edge of the area was saved by Marc Martínez.
In the end, Villarreal B came away empty-handed in their second game of the season at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The Yellows’ next game will be on Sunday 10th September, at 16.15, against Racing Ferrol at A Malata.
