Villarreal Women lose in a tight match with chances for each teams
Villarreal Women lost at home to Atlético Baleares (1-3). The Yellows took the lead thanks to a goal from Riquelme, but were undone by the visitors’ reaction, who had already turned the game around before the break with two goals from Mabel and Anna. In the second half, Gabriela scored from the penalty spot to put the game to bed.
The Yellows had a remarkable first half hour of the game. They had the best chances and went as far as making it 1-0 from a scramble in the box, which Riquelme put away.
The Submarine’s joy was short-lived, however, as they conceded an equaliser just two minutes later thanks to a neat finish from Mabel. It was a blow to the team’s morale, and it was to get worse before the break. In the 43rd minute, Anna took advantage of a transition to surprise Carmen with a long-range shot. Baleares made it 1-2.
In the second half, the Yellows tried their best to equalise. They took to the field with energy, but without success. A penalty in the 56th minute condemned their chances in the match. Gabriela scored the third and the Submarine, although they tried, were unable to pull one back.
The positive note of the game was undoubtedly the return to the pitch of Irene Miguelez after the knee injury that had kept her off the pitch since April 2023.
