The Argentinean goalkeeper signs until 2020 and the Madrid born midfielder until 2022
Villarreal CF have come to an agreement for the extension of contracts for Mariano Barbosa and Rodrigo Hernández. The Argentinean goalkeeper, who ended his contract this season, has extended his link to the club for two more seasons (until 2020), while the Madrid born midfielder, whose contract was originally up in 2020, will be bound to Villarreal CF until 2022.
This Tuesday, after the first team’s morning training session, a press conference will be held at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) and the details of the contract renewals will be talked about with both footballers present and a member of the Villarreal CF board of directors.
Two men of the club
Both Barbosa and Rodrigo are men of the club. Mariano Damián Barbosa (Lanús, Argentina, 27/07/1984) came back to the Submarine in the 2015/16 season after playing a season for Sevilla FC. The first time he signed for Villarreal was back in 2005, playing 28 matches, including 6 in the Champions League. In his two chapters as a Yellow, Barbosa has played a total of 60 matches and in 22 of those he has kept a clean sheet.
For his part, Rodrigo Hernández (Madrid, 22/06/1996) came to the club in the 2013/14 season from the Atlético de Madrid youth academy to keep growing as a player at the Yellows Academy. He has already played 57 official matches for the first team in which he has scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists. Currently, the Madrid born centre midfielder is an international with Spain U21 and previously with Spain U19.
