The midfielder underlined the team’s winning mentality this year
Villarreal CF midfielder Santi Comesaña appeared before the media this Wednesday to analyse the current situation of the Yellow Submarine, who face Girona FC this Sunday, and also to review their excellent early season form.
“We’re doing well in the standings and the feelings are also positive. The other day we were 2-0 down at half-time at a very difficult ground and we managed to equalise. We also created a lot of chances and it was well deserved. At the moment we’ve only lost to Madrid and Barcelona. We are in fourth place and I think it’s very well deserved,” said the Yellows’ No.14 about the team’s progress.
In the same vein, he also pointed out the change in mentality that the team has undergone since the arrival of Marcelino: “We’ve changed. When we started losing during a game last year, it seemed like everything was lost. It’s very different to this year. Now you have the confidence that you are going to win. We have the mentality of wanting to win and knowing that we can do it. We don’t give up. We have the mentality of a big team. It’s coming naturally to us.”
Comesaña also analysed Girona FC, the Submarine’s next opponents: “They’re a great team, who will be fighting to be at the top. Last year they had a great season. In terms of style, they like to have the ball and they play very well. They have great players. They are a Champions League team and a tough opponent. They are also on the back of a good streak in LALIGA. Now they’re playing in midweek and we want to take advantage of that too.”
On a personal level, the midfielder acknowledged that he could be having one of the best moments of his career: “It’s possible. We are fourth in the table. I’m playing in a team that is looking to get into the Champions League and I’m playing as a starter. I’m probably in the best form of my career.”
Finally, Santi Comesaña shared the dressing room’s happiness at Gerard Moreno’s great performance – including a goal – against Osasuna: “He’s a player of another level. The whole team is even happier that he scored the equaliser than the point we got. Not only is he a great player, but he’s also a great person. We all have a lot of love and respect for him in the dressing room.”
